I got it right. Click the button to read me talking about how I got there, but don’t do it till you’ve tried the puzzle yourself. Please.
I ran seven tests before I guessed the rule; four of them were yesses, and three were noes. My first two guesses (3, 6, 9 and 1, 2, 3) were both intended to be yesses; after that, guesses three through seven were intended to be noes. (Guess three 1, 7, 55 and guess six 0, 1, 2 both came back yes; guesses four 0, 0, 0, five 0, 0, 1 and seven 4, 2, 3 were my noes.) After six guesses, I was about to guess “All the numbers have to be different,” till I realised that I hadn’t tried any sequences where any number was lower than the number that preceded it, so I did guess seven.
Main takeaway: science is there for a reason, people. Always try to falsify your hypothesis.
